We have a beautiful silver 1970 Jaguar XKE Roadster for sale. This classic Jaguar has had the same owner since 1978 - that is proof enough that this car was loved and appreciated. But the signs of appreciation don't end there. This Jaguar has been garaged every day since purchased in 1978. Each year from 1978-1995, thousands of dollars were spent yearly on cosmetic upkeep and other “presents” for the car. Put all these things together and you'll understand the love the owner has for this fine classic Jaguar.
This is a numbers matching Jaguar E-Type. The engine block number matches the id tag by the battery. This car has only been driven a few thousand miles since 1995. The only reason the car is for sale is because the owner can no longer drive.
Even though the paint on the car is 12 years old, there is no bubbling in the paint. The fact that this paint job has held up so well is a testament to what a clean car it is. The car spent its life in South Carolina from 1970-1978, and since moving to Minnesota it has been stored every winter. The only time the car has ever seen snow was on a trip back from Las Vegas while traveling through the mountains.
The 4.2L, 6-cylinder engine was rebuilt 12 years ago at a cost of around five-thousand dollars, but due to a divorce and subsequent moving, the receipt for the rebuild could not be located. The owner said that the top end and the lower end were rebuilt, and he estimated 5-10 thousand miles have been put on the car since.
One unique feature is that this E-series Jaguar has power steering.
This Jaguar has a new top with only a few minor scuffs in the rear window. There is no fogging in the rear window and the top is taught and fresh. Check out the photos. It looks like a new top.
There are some scratches and chips here and there in the 12 year-old paint job, though as a whole it looks and shines with great pizazz. The owner stripped the car to bare mettle before having it professionally sprayed the original silver. On the top of the passenger side rear quarter panel there are some noticeable scratches. There is a small chip in the paint on the rear trunk lid, and there is an obvious dent in front of the driver’s side door.
The middle of the hood has a few imperfections from a shop that closed the hood with something on the motor. It took a few seconds for me to find the bumps but once I did they were fairly noticeable. The silver does hide these blemishes well, but there are some other imperfections here and there that I tried to capture in the photos.
All of the trim was rechromed 12 years ago. According to the owner the chrome didn't really need the attention, but this car was his baby so when he had it painted he went the extra mile and had the trim and bumpers rechromed also.
There are several items that are currently not working including:
The horn, The odometer, the clock, the heater, and at least one reverse light (the wires are there, they just need to be twisted and taped). The brake lights work and the headlights and all turn signals are operational.
The owner had new door panels and a new dash stitched up a few years back. There is an imperfection in the dash above the speedometer and tachometer—there is fabric that is not tucked in well and it is a bit loose fitting. It came this way straight from the upholstery place but it wasn't addressed at the time.
There is an exhaust leak toward the front of the tail pipe about 18 inches behind the motor (from what I could tell). There is a clamp near where it sounds like it's leaking, but it does have some blow by.
The biggest asset on this Jaguar is how solid it is. Check out the photos of the rockers, the wheel wells and above the tail pipes in the rear. Under the spare tire is a great indication of the controlled, dry environment that this car enjoyed since it was manufactured in November of 1969 (1970 model year).
Obviously the areas that need the most attention on this car are the seats and the carpet. If you know of a great upholstery shop you can have this car looking great with a pretty small investment to the interior.
