We have a fantastic original 1964 VW Karmann Ghia for sale. The VW Karmann Ghia is one of the most beautifully designed sports cars in history. The Italian styling coupled with the humble German engineering makes for an irresistible combination. The earliest of these convertibles are the truest of them all as the styling was not affected by regulations that later altered a nearly perfect design. This new body style was introduced in 1960 as seen in this 1960 Ghia example.
1964 is the most unique of all the Karmann Ghia's. This European model is even more unique. The instrument gauges are in Km/hr. The rear bumper does not have over rider bars like the US spec cars did. There are still some stickers and papers in German still intact on the car! The original pedal pads, what seems to be the original seats and door panels and other original items on this car make me suspect this could be a true and rare low mileage survivor with only 28,177 original kilometers. I have heard that 1964 is the only year that the ignition is coupled with an authentic VW locking shifter.
The carpet is new and the car has been painted the original color once, though the door jams and trunk are still in very nice, original paint. The floors are very solid as is most of the entire body of this car. There is one small area in the rocker panel just below the passenger side door that could use a little attention to be prefect, but this car is certainly enjoyable exactly as is. In the trunk you will find the original jack and bias ply spare tire. There is evidence of a front clip and that could account for the low mileage. The work was done to a very high standard and if I was not such a Karmann Ghia enthusiast I never would have noticed. The chassis, suspension, floors and drive train appear to be in nearly perfect, original condition.
The car comes with its correctly date coded 40 hpr engine and it still runs on a (brand new) 6 volt battery. The brakes feel good and the tires are like new. This is a very nice car and it is easily the nicest Karmann Ghia convertible I have ever had.
Take a moment to enjoy the two photo galleries just below this written description. I have taken the time to photograph every nook and cranny so you can better know what to expect should you decide this is the Ghia for your collection.
