We have a great looking, running and driving Porsche 356B for sale. This early Porsche is an enjoyable daily-driver. The transmission is a correct 741 duel mount Porsche transmission but the engine is a VW with duel Webber carburetors. It starts up and runs great. This is a nice driver that can be tinkered with over time if one chooses to make improvements or it can be enjoyed just as a driver. This car provides a nice, affordable opportunity for someone to get into a running and driving authentic 356 Porsche.
The car shifts very well and the car rides on new tires. Recently new shocks also help the car to drive very nicely. Watch the videos of this 1963 Porsche 356 below to see this fun, little Porsche running and driving.
There are a ton of receipts that come with the car. It was owned by a gentleman in CA for many years. Almost every receipt is from CA. Receipts show new king pins, new clutch, throw out barring, transmission mounts, brakes and much more valuable upkeep. The car has been well maintained. The mileage is believed to be original at 106k but without documentation going all the way back to the '60s it is hard to say for certain. The car does come with the large folder of receipts.
It has what looks to be an original interior with optional reclining front seats. The floor is original as are the longitudinals. The body is straight and the car looks fantastic going down the road or from 10 feet away. There are imperfections in the paint and these areas are detailed in the close-up photo gallery link below. The doors fit fairly well but the hood does have a kink on the driver's side. The longitudinals are not rust free but are about 7 or 8 out of 10 on the rust scale with some dents. If you just wanted a driver they are fine as is. The floor looks very good overall but there is a patch on the driver's side front. The trunk floor under the battery has been patched and is now solid with no holes. The tach and duel instrument gauge aren't working but there is a vintage looking radio in the original paint dash. The speedometer and odometer work as do all of the exterior lights (turn signals, etc.).
This sporty Porsche 356B has new tires and it's upgraded to a 12 volt electrical system. (6 volt systems can be troublesome as it's hard to keep all the lights working properly with such little current moving through the system.) The car has a rebuilt, 12 volt starter. The ingition switch has been changed at some point so the key does not work the door locks. This car may not be a show car but it is quite practical and it runs and drives great.
The Porsche has a clear Title so over seas sales are not a problem. Please call or email with any questions or for more details. Take the time to go through both photo galleries at the 1963 Porsche 356 page at Sunset Classics so you can get a chance to familiarize yourself with every part of the car. Just a note, once the reserve price is met the buy-it-now option goes away and at that point it is possible the car could be bid higher than the buy-it-now price.
These short wheel based cars are a ton of fun to drive. As a testament to this car's fun, reliability and drivability this car has had nearly 35,000 miles put on it in the last 12 years! This little bathtub Porsche runs great and can be driven daily exactly as it is. Any improvements made would only increase the value of your investment. If want to restore this car it was originally black you would really have a beautiful, rare colored early Porsche. This would be a fine addition to any classic car enthusiasts collection. So good luck winning the auction! Feel free to call with any questions. John Snell
